Originally planned by Walt Disney as an actual "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" the 700 ace park can be interpreted as a permanent World's Fair. The five Future World facilities focus on emerging technologies, while the eight World Showcases feature pavilions from many countries around he perimeter of a man-made 40 acre lagoon

Project Scope:


Champion was assigned to Epcot in January 1980 as the CM mobilized for site work and pre-construction services. He was the first Assistant PM on the site during the first year and was shared by multiple project management teams, including:


  • Site development

  • Monorail eight mile expansion

  • Lagoon construction

  • Infrastructure 

  • Disney Offices

  • Support Facilities


Pre-construction estimating and scheduling experience France, Japan and Area Development, which included 625,000 square feet of flat work, bridges, and integrated site landscaping. The final twelve months of the assignment were dedicated to the Mexican Pavillon, Ride and Show, Odyssey Pavilion, and the "Area F" site work and support buildings.

Two weeks after the opening of the park and a special recognition of his efforts by WED, Champion was promoted to corporate headquarters, an achievement he shared with four other coworkers of the 170 employees assigned to the Epcot project.
